Thank you For now, that I see something has happened to me Though I’m not sure Just what it was It’s so distant in my memory If it’s not for the look in your eyes While you are staring at me Perhaps I May Never have known What your expression just told That there’s something you’ve happened to see watching the street down below on TV you may keep your vision and I may keep walking straight through broken glass beneath my bare feet Now suddenly there’s something to feel Then I find I’m so deep asleep And dreams have turned out to be real Thank you For looking at me So that I may use your eyes Like a tide to pull me away Telling me That I should release It’s just something You’ve happened to see Searching through My memory With a certain Look in your eyes What you find Is it so hard to believe? When you blink And your eyes open up Then you find that you are so wide awake Then they close and you pray they stay shut leave behind what they have seen and you know that the light will remain

Came to me in my sleep Dragged my soul Took me to the side of the road Saying nothing We walked a while I touched his wings Before I went inside of a church Standing there I was looking up He was looking down Nailed to the side of a cross Made of wood he felt so cold I kissed his feet I swear a tear dripped from his eye This useless invitation That you slide beneath my door All because You’re kneeling now Before the one who is holding the rope Suppose I could wait a while To disappear Like candy placed inside a mouth But never meant that much to me Just standing there It feels like someone’s watching me eat This useless invitation That you slide beneath my door All because You’re kneeling now Before the one who’s holding the rope This useless invitation That they slide beneath my door All because I’m kneeling now Before the one who’s holding the rope If you find your slowly sinking While a light shines from the shore All because you’re kneeling now before the one Who’s holding the rope

Bed of Glass 03:51
They’re sleeping They just look like they’re dead And I know I Shouldn’t stand there and stare In their room Like I do Just to see them that way Freaked out They are already gone On a ship destined to sink But it still carry’s on Like I do Watching you While you’re falling for me Like I knew That you would Like a ship Sinks through the sea Want to lay you down On a bed of glass Pull the pieces out Put them in my mouth Creeping Through the content of your mind And I know I Should leave But then I find That I’m caught inside a mesh That is already lain But you knew all along Must have wanted it that way Want to lay you down On a bed of glass Pull the pieces out Put them in my mouth Want to lay you down But I got to be sure Want to lay you down On a bed of glass Lie down, cause I need you that way If you knew why There would be nothing left to crave About me in your room Watching you While you sleep Playing dead For the light While I slowly slip inside

Hollywood Slowly grows No one knows Just where you are Chances have already flown No one knows just what they were Suddenly something breaks and reappears beneath the water Scraps of light are falling down Light as feathers of a loon I’ve been trained by whips of Holly To obey if they should call for me Dive into the scrying pool No one knows unless they look Even though it’s hard to see Deep inside the garden where they grow Suddenly the surface breaks Your eyes pass through and pierce still water Looking up stare back down You’re beneath the surface of the pool I’ve been trained by whips of Holly To obey if they should call for me Holly wood grows beneath Raise the coppice of the trees Suddenly the season breaks And the rule is changing hands violently The surface breaks something falls Provides obstruction All we know holding hands Beneath the surface Of the stream I’ve been trained by whips of holly To obey if they should call for me For I’ve been saved by whips of Holly Having placed each scar upon my heart

Locust 03:11
You kept the linen clean But you couldn’t keep the dirt off me Pouring seconds from a hole in the clock Leaving hours piled up on the floor I might feel the sun But the sun certainly won’t feel me My hands are icy cold But everything they touch feels heat Everybody knows While I’m passing by The concrete starts to shake I’m a locust in the wind Now there’s nothing where I’ve been Just a feeling left behind Stole the bell right off of the ship So, they’re never going to hear it ring The passengers will be asleep While the pipes are ripped from under the sink I’m never going be the one Who’s ever been lost in the sea I’d rather eat the soap That was meant to wash the dirt from me Everybody knows That when I’m passing by The forest comes awake Now I’m talking to the wind Both asking where we’ve been And what’s been left behind I might feel the sun But the sun certainly won’t feel me My hands are icy cold but everything they touch feels heat You kept the linen clean but you couldn’t keep the dirt off me I’d rather eat the soap That was meant to keep me clean Everybody knows While I’m passing by The concrete starts to shake I’m a locust in the wind Now there’s nothing where I’ve been Just a feeling left behind Everybody knows That when I’m passing by The forest comes awake Now I’m talking to the wind Both asking where we’ve been And what’s been left behind

Sitting on the porch With a mix of medication While my neighbors look away Worried that mom might pass through With the vacuum And it will all be sucked away They can see right through But they never look at you Something hiding in their hands But there’s not enough rope They can use to make me choke I’ll be sitting here for years And there’s nothing waiting for me At the end of the street You can place the whole sun in your mouth But you can’t spit it out I take it cause its mine That you want it that way Some dumb fucker said he’s made it to the moon And his footprints count as proof Let him come here and say that to my face I’ll leave footprints on his head At the bottom of her purse There’s some change and medication I could just take it from her hands But she always deep asleep So, she never seems to see I guess she likes it that way And there’s nothing waiting for me At the end of the street You can place the whole sun in your mouth But you can’t spit it out I take it cause its mine That you want it that way I know it’s going to be me Who’s been left out in the cold

Hypothermia 03:03
They leave in November How could she know All of the seasons We’re dead beneath the snow Leads through December She couldn’t see All of the seasons They belong to me I’ll be cold for you I’ll be cold How could they lead her Down to the mall Only to feed her Nothing much at all It came in November But they couldn’t know all of the colour Was dead beneath the snow I’ll be cold for you I’ll be cold for you I’ll be cold We’ll see after Christmas they couldn’t know That she couldn’t be here Was dead beneath the snow Spring beneath the surface Last seasons leaves All of the colour Well they belong to me I’ll be cold for you I’ve been cold for you Beneath the snow for you I’ll be cold The heat came in springtime They were calling for me They arrived in circles And they all began to breed Cold beneath the surface soon they will know All of my reasons were dead beneath the snow I’ll be cold for you I’ve been cold for you I’ll be cold for you. I’ve been cold

Elizabeth 02:36
I’m Only a patient A doctored sensation Waiting for you My failing heart beat The one that I keep Waiting for you Visiting hours Are complete You’ve written your name On a cold white sheet To love an illusion That smiles and bows to you A coloring book Allows us both to see I’m just a poor boy Alone with a cold toy Broke on his hands Deep inside the gift shop There’s always something to see A fantasy book Misdiagnosing me It’s just a sweet thing Designed to make you smile To lead you from your fever To treat you like a child I’m busy sleeping Awake while I’m dreaming Searching for you The cats inside the garden Tearing up perennial flowers He’s angry because I’ve teased him With a garden hose It’s just a sad thing The beast can’t take a joke Now next year there will just be dirt Where peonies used to grow I’m only a patient A doctored sensation Searching for you

Weird Ways 02:39
The weird way you walk It’s strange to see Like the strange way you talk It’s weird to me Like a storm that won’t last Throughout the night It never seems to go Without a fight Painted lady Leave me be All that I want Is to be free The strange way you talk It’s weird to me Like the weird way you walk Is strange to see Like a storm that won’t last Throughout the night It never seems to leave without a fight Painted lady Leave me be Cause all that I want Is to be free It all seems to go Straight up like smoke And try as I may It’s just a joke

Stolen valor 02:30
Remember that time you've been deployed When I stayed behind with your wife You never know what they take from you Until you see it on someone else But it don't mean nothing If she's not satisfied I took the medal from your jacket And I placed 'em each on myself I ran downtown to beg for change But I came back with something else I'm not looking for forgiveness Unless she's not satisfied All my scars are self-inflected I gave 'em each to myself Now I'm covered in decoration That belongs to someone else But it don't mean nothing If she's not satisfied Now here's something, I got nothing That I got for nothing at all Now here's nothing, I got something And it's dripping from my mouth Dripping from my mouth like honey Stolen from another bee Where they get that honey from anyhow It's all the same to me Stolen valor That's how I won the war Stolen valor That's how I won the war Stolen valor That's how I won the war
11.
Strawberry sun Whatever you’ve done Has happened to me With a wind so cold But you’ll have me pretend it’s a warm summers breeze Me and my mind Both riding our bikes Down by the ravine We’ll be parting our ways Each reaching out To make the break clean But one of us won’t find our way Be confused by the wind in the trees Separate in a thickening haze The other lies down while another gets lost Strawberry sun It a strawberry sun I guess that I’ve won The separation is finally complete I’ll be slaking my thirst The same as the roots down by the ravine

Kind of boy 02:18
I laid a trap But it was just an illusion Feels cold when the moonlights gone A little more Was just to confuse her Into thinking I already knew A ride home was all that needed I’m full of cuts but I’m never bleeding I’m still leaving stains on the seat The kind of boy who never knew That the smell might tell on you Arrive home to a locked door I don’t know where to go I see a light but it’s so misleading The echo of a voice that never called Somethings funny but I’m not laughing Somethings broken but it never happened Should have gone easy it’s a lot to chew The kind of boy who never knew The kind of girl who won’t tell on you Come home to a bed of ice She never ever knows How long I’ve hung my meat Feels nice when the moonlights gone I swore I’d never loose Another chance if I could choose The kind of boy who never knew The kind of girl who won’t tell on you The kind of girl who won’t tell on you
13.
Never going to run I’ll never look away Never going to plead You’ll never make me beg Never make me say Please release me from your gaze All the gasoline Was dripping from my hands While holding in my teeth Yet another stricken match Was all I could do standing still Not to look away from the flames where my eyes will remain just like the wind was chasing grains of sand all fallen from your grasp keep blowing into glass back into your your hands hold to your lips the pouring rain Straight to your mouth where it must pour down once again just the other day I heard the calling of a loon from the center of a lake the creation of a wish wrapping its own wings around the sound of its own voice the only one that I hear but never seem to find even when I look but I always keep in mind if he should come I’ll be waiting when he arrives and when he comes you know that I am never going to run burst through the silence come crashing through my eyes the broken windows have let the wind inside be expecting violence When the day arrives He’s going to cast his light on me

about

Locust is the new solo album from Jeff Clarke (The Black Lips/Demon's Claws). A stripped-down, melancholic change of pace from the Canadian musician. Clarke's sincere, poetic texts are accompanied only by his acoustic guitar. The warm, dreamy, minimalist folk sound is enhanced by the recordings themselves -- all done in a single session, outdoors in a forest north of Berlin.
